The President of Malta, Her Excellency, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, this morning launched the Informal Carer Award, an initiative which the President's office is organising in collaboration with Caremark Malta.

Caremark
Informal Carers are persons who offer care to family members, neighbours or friends often voluntarily.  This award with identify, recognise, honour and reward informal carers within our society.

The President, speaking from the San Anton Palace, applauded the efforts of these people and said that through this award, her office hoped to raise awareness to the very valid contribution given by these unsung heroes to persons with disability and the elderly.   Her Excellency encouraged the public to send it their nominations for people they may know who would be eligible for such an award.

Mr Kenneth De Martino, Chairman of Caremark Malta said that the service provided by companies such as Caremark should be considered as an added support service available to these informal carers.  Informal carers hold a very important place in the care cycle and they can never be replaced however, staff at Caremark are trained to work hand in hand so as to provide support services which best suit the informal carer.

Applications can be downloaded from www.president.gov.mt and submitted by the 7th May 2015.  A selection board, chaired by Mr Edgar Preca, the President's husband, will then select a winner, who will receive an award as well as a voucher for care offered by Caremark Malta.
